Operating System Recovery Please follow the procedure below if you need to recover the software on your computer back to its original state as supplied when new. To recover your software you will need:

  • Fujitsu Siemens Product Recovery CD¬ROM
  • Drivers and Utilities CD-ROM
  1. Plug in and turn on the computer
  2. Insert the Fujitsu Siemens Product Recovery CD-ROM that came with your computer into the DVD tray and close it.
  3. Switch the computer off, wait a moment and then switch the computer on again.
  4. When you see the prompt on the screen Press any Key to boot from CD... press any key on the keyboard. The installation will start, and the Windows Setup menu appears on your screen. Your computer will now load files it needs from the DVD/CD drive to restore Windows XP on your computer. This will take a few minutes
  5. After the files have been loaded, the Windows XP Home Edition Setup menu appears. Press Enter to continue
  6. The setup process will pause and you will see the Windows XP Home Edition License Agreement on the screen. To continue with setup you must accept the agreement by pressing the F8 key
  7. In the next screen that appears, click on ESC for don't repair
  8. In the following menu highlight C: Partition 1 [NTFS] , press D and confirm with Enter
  9. Next press L and confirm with Enter
  10. In the following menu, select Format with NTFS file system (Quick) and press Enter The computer will now examine your hard disk and then automatically copy files from the Product Recovery CD-ROM. This will take several minutes. During this process your computer will also re-start automatically. After your computer has automatically re-started, the Windows XP setup process will start
  11. The Windows XP Home Edition License Agreement will appear on the screen. To continue with setup you must accept the agreement. Tick the I accept this agreement and then click Next The Windows XP setup process will continue to install the necessary files and devices onto your computer. This will take several minutes
  12. The setup process will pause to ask you to enter your name and organisation. You must enter a name though you do not have to enter an organisation. When you have entered your details click on the box marked Next
  13. You will be prompted to enter a name for the computer. Windows XP will suggest a name but you may change this if you wish. Click on the box marked Next to continue The Windows XP setup process will continue installing the files it needs. This will take several minutes and your computer will automatically re-start and the setup process will continue
  14. A prompt will appear on the screen To improve the appearance of visual elements, Windows will automatically adjust your screen resolution. Click on the box marked OK. After the screen has been adjusted. Windows® XP will ask you to confirm that you can read some text. Click on the box marked OK
  15. Windows® XP presents you with a screen welcoming you to Microsoft® Windows®. To continue click on Next in the bottom right hand corner of the screen
  16. Windows® XP prompts you to enter the name of each person who will use the computer. At least one name must be entered. When you have finished click Next
  17. Windows® XP completes the installation process. Click on Finish
  18. Remove the Recovery CD-ROM from the DVD/CD drive and store it in a safe place
  19. To install the additional software and drivers for your computer follow the instructions below.

Using the Drivers and Utilities CD

  • Insert the Drivers & Utility CD into your DVD/CD drive.
  • It will load the setup screen for DirectX 9.0, accept the agreement and click Next and Next again. The installation will copy files across and click Finish when completed. The computer will now restart and load to the following screen:
  • Click on Driver Installation
  • Click on Install
  • After the installation process your computer will automatically re-start.
