So... questions: (1) Have you attempted to put in a separate audio board? (2) How did this problem start up - were you doing a rebuild? Off the top of my head, I think the answer to your problems may well be on your motherboard support CD. ... If you weren't supplied with a separate motherboard CD, you can download the drivers. Please keep us in touch - we will help all we can. Good luck. -------------------- We are all doomed, doomed I tell you.

Hi Hanfonius thanks for the reply....its a friends pc...and she said it had sound when she got it from the store...but cant remember whn it stopped.....she did say she kept getting a popup message that a audio jack has been unplugged....and that shortly after it stopped having sound and gave the new error message that i menationed above.... I tried eveything i could think of....and decdied to see if a factory reset would fix it...i launced the factory restore via emachine recovery console...and it went through the motions...but same thing...speaker icon has a red x and says no audio device is installed. I then relaunched the E recovery console...and installed teh device driver for the sound devices...it shows as Realtek HD Audio Driver - Vista 32 R166 ver 6.0.1.5404 when it goes through the motions of installing it says it installed just fine...yet still same prob... so next i went into device manager and uninstalled the sound device...thinking at next boot up it would get picked up and ask for drivers to be installed...it didnt...and now i have no sound icon in the device manager !! *sigh wat a mess Recommended: Free Performance Scan! - Free System Scan! - Free Driver Scanner! |

try this
Removal 1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 2. In Control Panel, click Uninstall a Program. 3. In the Programs and Features window, select the Realtek HD Audio Driver, and then click Uninstall/Change. 4. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue. 5. Follow all onscreen instructions to complete the removal. Installation After you have downloaded and double-clicked the file D20192-001-002.exe, files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\D20192-001-002 folder on the hard drive. 1. From the Start menu, in the Start Search field, type: C:\Cabs\D20192-001-002\Setup.exe, and then press ENTER. 2. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Allow. 3. Follow all onscreen instructions to complete the installation. -------------------- Recommended: Free Performance Scan! - Free System Scan! - Free Driver Scanner! |

I found the problem. There was a setting within the administrators template that did not allow it to be installed under gpedit.msc
