My wife thinks she might of been on my administrator account when she changed a password thinking it was hers or my account is corrupt. We tried all her passwords but still get "invalid name or password of account" Tried all the downloads but problem is it wants administrator approval to add or change anything on our computer. Went in safe mode with command prompt and typed "net user Mick and it shows my account still there but said password was last changed on 5/9/09. Did not realize was suppose to make a reset disk till now of course! Do i really have to reinstall vista and lose all our data?

You present us with a little bit of a dilema here, Mick.
While I am fairly sure that you are a genuine and upstanding chap, there is also the possibility that the PC you have there has been stolen; I don't know you from Adam. ... It is the policy of this site not to provide any illegal copies of software, serial numbers or passwords. I would recommend that you either (1) contact Microsoft Support by telephone, explain your problem, and they will advise you how to resolve it, or (2) simply type in 'Lost Admin Password Vista' (or XP) into your Google search box, and there you will find a lot of people only too happy to answer you. Sorry we cannot be more helpful at this stage, but please remember that we will always do our best to offer solutions for your future problems. ... I hope we hear from you again. Cheers; -------------------- We are all doomed, doomed I tell you.

Wow that hurt, but i do understand. If my computer was stolen i wouldn't want anyone accessing it. The problem is i can't either. Can get on wifes account thank god but can't change or update any programs, download any software. Purchased password recovery 5.0 a few days ago because i have tried everything else. Still need administrator password to download!!

I do have the vista install disk that came with our dell computer. Booted up on disk and tried to restore before 5/9/09 but to late only goes back to 6/1. Tried ophcrack, that did not help either. Thanks hanfonius, I have been searching the web and tried everything i could find. Everything i have found did not work. We have pictures of family and cruises on our pc which i guess i could burn to a disk if i don't need admin approval if have to reinstall vista but seems there should be another way? I understand how you are feeling about your precious photo's, and probably other valuable data. I would certainly get them onto a USB stick (they are cheap enough where you are), and also onto a CD or DVD if your permissions allow. ... My ol' Ratbag and myself flew into your nearest city for the 'Grand Tour', and those photo's are valuable to us. Once I took them out of the camera, they went onto two seperate hard-drives, DVD's and memory sticks. Short of a nuclear attack, I should always be able to access them. ... You can get a nice 500GB Seagate FreeAgent for about 100 bucks. Then you can keep Acronis full-disk back-ups on it, and never have these problems again. (If you would like to know more about Acronis, just let me know). I'm hoping that you wont need to do a full rebuild, but rather to 'repair' your Vista from the installation disk; this would leave your data intact. However, we shall have to wait for 7mark to advise further. Just hang in there - he'll be in calling in real soon. Don't worry too much - I'm sure we can help out here. -------------------- We are all doomed, doomed I tell you.
